Exclusive Movie Screening: Your Days of Plenty are Numbered

Bring out your popcorn! Die Deutsche Sphäre presents a free movie screening exclusively for all members. "Your Days of Plenty are Numbered" will be screened on Monday 11 December 2006, from 2-4pm, at the Central Library Theatrette 2.

After Jule hits a rich businessman's car, the debt-ridden undergraduate has no choice but to share a flat with her boyfriend. She soon learns that he and his flatmate, who call themselves "The Educators", hide a secret: burgling the houses of the rich to protest against the injustices of the capitalist system. Trouble ensues when the rich businessman unexpectedly returns home just as they are burgling his house.

Filmabend: Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei

Die Deutsche Sphäre organisiert einen exklusiven kostenlosen Filmabend für alle Mitglieder. Der Film des Monats ist "Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei". Diese Veranstaltung findet am Monntag, dem 11. Dezember 2006, von 2-4 Uhr, im Theatrette 2 der Zentralen Bibliothek statt.

Nachdem Jule das Auto eines reichen Geschäftsmanns anprallt, muss die verschuldete Studentin in die Wohnung ihres Freundes einziehen. Sie kommt hinter das Geheimnis, das ihr Freund und sein Mitbewohner stecken: die selbstgenannten "Edukators" brechen in die Häuser der Reiche ein, um gegen das unfaire kapitalistische System zu protestieren. Es wird kompliziert, wenn der reiche Geschäftsmann plötzlich heimgeht, zur gleichen Zeit dass sie in sein Haus einbrechen.

10th German Film Festival

Now in its 10th year, the German Film Festival presents a wonderful and varied selection of the best films from Germany.

All Die Deutsche Sphäre members enjoy an exclusive ticket price of S$8, 20% off the normal ticket price of S$10.

This time, the two films that we are watching together are "The Red Cockatoo" and "Summer in Berlin".

A dramatic love story, "The Red Cockatoo" is an authentic period film depicting youthful passion and protest in the former East Germany.

On the other hand, "Sommer vorm Balkon" is an enchanting comedy, full of warmth, sincerity and humour, an engaging film on friendship, love, motherhood and contemporary lifestyle.

Das Zehnte Deutsche Filmfest

Das zehnte deutsche Filmfest präsentiert eine wunderbare und vielfältige Selektion der besten deutschen Filme.

Alle Mitglieder der deutschen Sphäre genießen einen exklusiven Ticketpreis von S$8, 20% weniger als der normale Ticketpreis von S$10.

Dieses Mal sehen wir "Der rote Kakadu" und "Sommer vorm Balkon" an.

Eine dramatische Liebesgeschichte, "Der rote Kakadu" ist ein authentischer Periodefilm und ein Porträt der jugendlichen Leidenschaft und Protest in der ehemaligen Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.

Andererseits ist "Sommer vorm Balkon" eine bezaubernde Komödie voller Herzlichkeit, Aufrichtigkeit und Humor, und ein entzückender Film, der um Freundschaft, Liebe, Mutterschaft und gegenwärtigen Lebensstil geht.

New Year, New Beginning

It was the first meeting of the new executive committee, and where better to meet than at Munchie Monkeys, that has seen many a Stammtisch.

The members of the executive committee of last year were on hand to perform the handover of responsibilities as well as dish out seasoned advice. Our heartfelt thanks to them for their dedicated service during the past year. Pictured are: Jia En, Wilson, Yizhen and Clarence.

They passed on the baton to the newly formed executive committee for this academic year. The new committee comprises: Gladys, Wenda, Ziming, Maybelle, Aurelia, Shi Ling, Kamran, Zhibo, Ahmed, Lin Lin, Jenna, Rajalakshmi, Barathi, Seok Hui and Pan Yu.

Efforts have begun in full swing to bring you the first Stammtisch in October as well as movie gems from the 10th Singapore German Film Festival in November. Stay tuned for updates!

Neues Jahr, Neuer Anfang

Es war die erste Besprechung vom neuen Vorstand. Welche bessere Ort dafür als Munchie Monkeys, die Ort für viele Stammtische.

Der Vorstand vom letzten Jahr war dabei, um ihre Zuständigkeiten zu übergeben und um Rat zu geben. Wir sind ihnen dankbar für ihre Arbeit während des Jahres. Im Photo sind Jia En, Wilson, Yizhen und Clarence.

Im neuen Vorstand sind: Gladys, Wenda, Ziming, Maybelle, Aurelia, Shi Ling, Kamran, Zhibo, Ahmed, Lin Lin, Jenna, Rajalakshmi, Barathi, Seok Hui and Pan Yu.

AGM cum Welcome Tea

Food, friends, fun...what more could one ask for? On 20 September 2006, German language students packed Yusof Ishak House's Function Rooms 1 & 2 for Die Deutsche Sphäre's Annual General Meeting.

Gracing the event was Frau Niemann, who delivered the welcome address.

Siwei, club president, then took the stage to introduce past and upcoming activities.

No gathering in Singapore is complete without food, and a mouthwatering feast awaited.

Also selling like hotcakes was membership. Members enjoy advance notice and rebates for the club's events. Membership is open throughout the year, so spread the word!

The AGM is also a platform to recruit interested members to form the incoming Executive Committee. Interviews will be held after the recess for shortlisted applicants.

This year marks a milestone for our club as we become a full-fledged society. A warm welcome to all and we count on your support to make Die Deutsche Sphäre a success!

Jahreshauptversammlung und Anfangsparty

Essen, Freunde, Spaß...was noch kann man wünschen? Am 20. September 2006 beteiligten sich Deutschlernende an der Jahreshauptversammlung der Deutschen Sphäre in den Veranstaltungsräumen 1 & 2 des Yusof Ishak Hauses.

Frau Niemann beehrte uns mit ihrer Anfangsrede.

Anschließend stellte der Clubpräsident Siwei die vergangenen und kommenden Aktivitäten des Klubs vor.

Ohne Essen ist kein Sammeln in Singapur komplett , und ein leckeres Fest wurde vorbereitet.

Mitgliedschaft im Club fand auch groß Zuspruch. Mitglieder werden über geplante Aktivitäten früh informiert und kriegen auch Rabatte für die Aktivitäten. Während des Jahres kann man jederzeit Mitgliedschaft beantragen, also bringt eure Freunde mit!

Außerdem ist die JHV eine Plattform, auf der Mitglieder anwenden können, sich am Vorstand des Clubs zu beteiligen. Interviews werden nach der Recesswoche geführt für alle in der engeren Auswahlliste.

Dieses Jahr ist ein Meilenstein für den Club, denn wir werden bald ein echter Verein. Herzlich Willkommen bei der Deutschen Sphäre und wir bitten um Unterstützung, damit die Deutsche Sphäre ein Erfolg wird!

HERZLICH WILLKOMMEN!

Habt ihr am 20. September abends schon etwas vor? Im Namen der deutschen Sphäre möchte ich euch herzlich zu unserem ersten Jahrestreffen einladen.Was ist die deutsche Sphäre? Dieser Club wurde vor zwei Jahren als eine Interessensgruppe von Studenten gegründet, die Deutsch an der Universität lernen und sich für die Sprache und Kultur Deutschlands interessieren. Er bietet diesen Studenten die Möglichkeit, Deutsch außerhalb des Klassenzimmers zu üben und funktioniert auch als eine art Plattform auf der sich Deutschlernende und Austauschstudenten kennen lernen und Kontakte knüpfen können.

In den zwei Jahren entwickelte sich der Club weiter und wir machen jetzt auch Aktivitäten, die nicht zwangsläufig nur mit Sprache zu tun haben. Es gibt Workshops, Filmabende, Austellungen u.s.w..Dieses Jahr wird die Universität den Club als einen echten Verein anerkennen.

Der Ablauf des Jahrestreffens 2006 im Überblick:
• Kurze Vorstellung des Clubs
• Bericht über die Aktivitäten im letzten Jahr
• Vorschläge für Aktivitäten in kommenden Jahren (z.B. Tandem-Program, Deutsches Filmfest u.s.w.)
• Empfang : kleine deutschen Erfrishungen
Organisatorisches:
• Der Jahresbeitrag für die Mitgliedschaft im Club beträgt $5. Interessierte können ihm auf der Jahrestagung beitreten.

Matriculation Fair 31. Juli - 3. August

A first for the club, we are extremely thankful to the Goethe Institut, German Embassy and DAAD for their kind sponsorship and support, as well as the wonderful support from members who helped out in setting up, manning the booth and clearing up. Last but not least, the 215 freshmen and women who signed up with us!

Following last year's Rhythm and Poetry Hiphop workshop, we were honoured that Kronstädta, his wife Johanna along with their new born baby Lila in tow were here with us this year.

Although it was only a one day event, students had lots of fun nonetheless, creating their own rap lyrics and later rapping to the beat provided by the crew.

Some rapping and grooving by Kronstädta and Johanna to break the ice...

Some of the paticipants needed some encouragment...

While others were more spontaneous and looked to be a huge hit in Germany in the future...

But in the end, everyone took to the stage...

even the teachers got down to the act... (Frau Niemann and Frau Neumann rapping about the problems of having similar last names...)
